Nice scope

I haven't had a chance to test it under the stars yet, however the build quality seems quite good considering the cost of this scope. While the supplies vixen dovetail held the scope in place, adding my cameras and power accessories left me concerned about its security so I upgraded it to a more robust losmandy d plate.
Attached a zwo focuser to the scope with no issues. Hard to say more until I get some clear weather but all in all so far im very happy with the build quality.

Brilliant Scope!

I must admit, I thought SVBONY was a bargain brand and I was not expecting the quality to be the best. Not So! I first picked up The 102 ED and no exaggeration I was shocked at the precision build quality and colour free optics. I had my eye all along on The 122 Apo and seeing the price $1,000 less than The EX 127, I once owned- I ordered and hoped it would be as good as The 102 ED. It is! In my opinion it eclipses The EX 127 I once owned. First it is light for a 4.8 " Triplet - only 14 lbs! The focuser is a 2.5 inch rotatable rack and pinion and it is everything you want in a focuser - precise, strong, perfectly weighted. Being a 122mm makes the OTA just that bit shorter and easier to handle. The scope in its soft case (Did I mention it comes in its own case?) Weighs under 20 Lbs and feels almost light to carry out to the car. Finally the optics are pristine - I've run the 102 ED at 223X and it is razor sharp and contrasty. The 122 is awaiting clear skies but in daylight testing the views are almost identical to the 102 ED. I'd rate the scope 10 out of 10 - there's actually nothing to improve on it!
I would expect this scope to be selling for $2500 CDN by the end of 2024.

First impressions

Haven't had a chance to do an imaging run yet but these are my initial thoughts. This thing is very big, but not as heavy as it looks, it's lighter then my HD8". Everything moves buttery smooth, every screw, knob, focuser, and even the shade just glide. Oddly this had some negatives because if you rotate anything on the OTA counter clockwise, like the built in camera angle adjuster, you can unthread the focuser from the tube by accident. I just rotated everything clockwise to prevent this. It's a solid build over all, nicely machines. I did feel the need to put a losmandy plate on it for a more solid base, but that just allowed me to move the viven plate to the top for my guide scope\handle so no loss there. Adding the reducer and ZWO EAF was a breeze. I couldn't get the camera properly aligned so I also have the angle adjuster on the way so I can align the camera without rotating the focuser. End of the day the focuser will only have to move out about 10mm to focus. Overall very happy and can't wait to get a good imaging run with it.

I am impressed ! Nice price range for a mid sized high end optical quality instrument, good aperture range and compact , the views of Saturn with four of its moons visible the first night was sharp and stunning ,The wild duck cluster m11 was diamonds on black! This scope has exceeded my expectations as a visual observer for many decades !!!

For EAF Installation

This SV550 122 APO is compatible with EAF focuser. To install the EAF, first you should remove the screw completely as shown. Then look inside the hole and slowly rotate the focuser until you see another set screw inside the hole. This screw actually secures the focusing knob to the shaft. Insert a wrench and loosen this screw. Note that there may be two of these screws, so rotate the focusing shaft one turn to be sure. The focus knob will slide off after that.
