Description

Orion Thin Off-Axis Guider for Astrophotography – 05531

Improve your astrophotography guiding accuracy with the Orion Thin Off-Axis Guider (TOAG). Designed to allow simultaneous imaging and autoguiding through a single telescope, this compact accessory eliminates the need for a separate guide scope while helping reduce guiding errors caused by differential flexure.

With an exceptionally thin 10.5 mm body, the Orion TOAG is particularly well suited for Newtonian reflectors and other imaging systems where available backfocus is limited. Its low-profile design makes it a versatile option for astrophotographers using DSLR or dedicated astronomy cameras.

The guider uses a small adjustable pick-off prism to redirect a portion of the telescope's incoming light to a separate guide camera. This allows the guiding system to monitor tracking errors through the same optical system used by the primary imaging camera, helping maintain accurate tracking during long-exposure astrophotography.

Key Features

  • Ultra-Thin 10.5 mm Profile: Compact design minimizes the optical spacing required, making it especially useful for Newtonian reflectors.

  • Single-Telescope Guiding: Guide and image through the same optical tube without requiring a separate guide scope.

  • Reduced Differential Flexure: Helps minimize tracking errors caused by movement between the imaging telescope and a separate guide scope.

  • Adjustable Pick-Off Prism: Allows precise positioning to locate suitable guide stars while keeping the prism outside the main camera's imaging area.

  • Lateral Prism Adjustment: Provides additional flexibility for guide-star positioning.

  • Secure Guide Camera Mounting: Stabilization setscrews help maintain a rigid connection.

  • Versatile Imaging Connections: Supports a variety of configurations using the included camera adapters, spacers, and 2-inch nosepiece.

  • Coma Corrector Compatibility: Thin construction is suitable for many imaging systems incorporating coma correctors, provided the required optical spacing is maintained.

Standard Included Accessories

  • Orion Thin Off-Axis Guider main body

  • 2-inch nosepiece

  • Canon-compatible DSLR bayonet adapter

  • Camera T-thread adapter

  • M48 male to T-thread female step-down ring

  • 3 mm coma corrector spacer

Some updated production versions also include a separate M48 camera ring adapter. Included components should be verified against the actual package.

Important: A separate guide camera and primary imaging camera are required and are not included. Compatibility depends on your telescope's available backfocus, camera connections, and the spacing requirements of any focal reducer, field flattener, or coma corrector. The 10.5 mm measurement refers to the guider body; adapters may increase total optical spacing.
