Description

ASI071MC Pro: What Improvements Have Been Achieved?

Note:ZWO Cooled cameras require a 12V power source for the TEC cooler and USB hub power. If you don't have one, please add it through the options on the right side of the product display.

The ZWO ASI071MC Pro color camera uses the very popular Sony IMX071 sensor

Important: For the following imaging camera models, please use a separate 12V power supply rather than the power hub in the ASIAIR Pro as the hub cannot provide enough amperage to power the camera's TEC coolers: ASI6200, ASI2600, ASI2400, ASI533, ASI071MC

The Camera Features

  • APS-C (1.8″) Diagonal 28.4mm
  • 16MP (4944×3284)
  • Very Low Read Roise: 2.3e @24db Gain 3.3e @Lowest Gain
  • 14Bit ADC: Provides Real 14bit Dynamic Range
  • Electronic Shutter: No Vibration Problem with Mechanical Shutters
  • 4.78um Pixel Size
  • Built-in Dew Heater

DDR Memory Buffer

The ASI071MC Pro camera includes a 256MB DDR3 memory buffer to help improve data transfer reliability. Additionally, the use of a memory buffer minimizes amp-glow, which is caused by the slow transfer speeds when the camera is used with a USB 2.0 port.

DDR3

The DDR memory buffer and active cooling are the main differences between regular ASI cameras and Pro models.

Astrophotography Performance

The ASI071MC Pro offers very good performance for astrophotography - Low read noise, high dynamic range.

Dark Current

the Dark Current of the ASI071MC Pro is better controlled than before with the help of  the DDR buffer and hardware design

USB 3.0 Port & USB2.0 HUB

USB 3.0 Port: Provide 5Gb bandwidth to make it possible for the ASI071MC Pro to run at 10 fps (14bit, normal mode) at full resolution(16MP).

USB 2.0 HUB: Allows connection of various accessories including a filter wheel, guide camera or electronic focuser, and allows you to manage your cables better. There are two short 0.5m USB2.0 cables included with the ASI071 Pro. The hub is powered by the external power supply if you connect one.

New mechanical design and Anti-Dew Heater

The ASI071MC-PRO camera comes with a completely upgraded anti-dew heater and mechanical body.

The diameter of the camera body increased to 86mm (The original ASI071MC was 78mm).

Anti-Dew and Cooling System

The ASI071MC Pro has a two-stage TEC cooling system that allows deep cooling (35°C - 40°C below ambient). You will need an external 12V power supply to power the cooler. An AC-DC power adapter is not included in this package, however you can order one from Telescopes Canada if required

We recommend using a 12V/3 - 5A or more DC adapter for the cooler power supply (2.1×5.5, center positive).
Using a 9-15V battery is also suitable for the cooler power supply.

The anti-dew heater will heat the AR window to avoid any dew problems. The anti-dew heater power usage around 3.6W and can be software controlled to save power.
